Covid- 19 is still with us unfortunately. And will probably be with us forever but in different forms or strains. Currently we are seeing more contagious form but not making people as sick as it was when it first started in 2020 and 2021. There are yearly vaccines coming out currently that help with the most common strain at the time. The CDC guidance has also changed about who needs to stay home and who can go back to work or school. If you are not sure, please contact the office and we can help make that decision. If you have fever, fatigue, congestion, headache, muscle aches, etc- stay home until those symptoms have IMPROVED (not gone away completely) to a manageable level for 24 hours. After that 24 hours, return to work or school with a mask for 5 more days. The day you return would be Day 1. If you have a relapse or start with worsening symptoms, you get to start over. The most important thing to know is to treat your symptoms with over the counter medication AND to rest and stay hydrated. Tylenol and Ibuprofen/Advil/Aleve/ Naproxen etc for headache, fever, muscle aches, sore throat or other pain. Benadryl to help with congestion and to help you sleep. Delsym or Mucinex DM for cough. Claritin/ Zyrtec/ Allegra/ Xyzal for runny nose and congestion. Rest and then rest some more.
Covid is a virus. Antibiotics do not work. If you are high risk: over 60 years of age, COPD or emphysema, obesity, hypertension or cardiac disease, immunocompromised, diabetes- then you would benefit from Paxlovid to help the symptoms not turn to severe symptoms like pneumonia or hospitalization. If you become short of breath, reach out to your family physician for guidance or go to the ER. Routine Covid symptoms do not need to be seen at the ER. Please be considerate and wear a mask around others. Especially if you are going to the physician's office as this will help decrease the spread.
The 2024-2025 season Covid-19 vaccine will help decrease the symptoms and in some may prevent from catching Covid at all. It can be combined with the Flu vaccine and given all in the same day. If not given the same day, you must wait 14 days between the two immunizations. Prevention is so much better than treating the illness.
Be safe out there, Be Kind and Be considerate.
