Frequently asked questions
What exactly is Direct Primary Care?
Click here for an explanation dpcnation.org/
How much does it cost?
Patients can expect to pay a monthly fee as well as additional costs for lab work and procedures not covered. The good news? Lab costs are wholesale prices and we help you negotiate prices for procedures. The monthly fee as well as the other charges are usually much more affordable than insurance-based premiums, co-pays, and deductibles. In real terms, for less than half of a typical monthly cable bill, patients will have 24 hours a day access to their physician, as many times as they need.
Do I still need insurance?
Yes. The most common and economical would be a wraparound plan such a s a high deductible plan with lower monthly premiums. This would cover situations like emergency care or complex procedures and/ or hospitalizations. Direct Primary Care is not an insurance and is not a substitute for health insurance. With such an insurance plan in place, and combined with the subscription costs for DirectCare Family Health, patients can potentially realize significant savings over a typical year of medical expenses and as a bonus, get the treatment they need, whenever they need it.
If you do not have insurance, you can still be a part of DirectCare Family Health but we do encourage some type of insurance for catastrophic problems.
We also recommend HealthShare programs which are organized like a Go Fund Me or Crowd Sourced method to fund your higher cost procedures. There is a graph below with some examples.
What about referrals to specialists?
As your personal physician, we can monitor your chronic illness or unique situation and when necessary, referrals will be made to the specialist best suited for your needs. Every effort will be made to refer you to a specialist who will work with your financial concerns also.
Why DirectCare Family Health?
For a better doctor/ patient relationship. This is a the heart of primary care. Like any relationship, this requires time, availability, and predictability (especially in terms of costs). These qualities are in such disarray in the current healthcare environment and DirectCare Family Health is making a better way.
Why should I pay a monthly fee?
In the typical primary care practice, the physicians's charges are directed and processed through your insurance company (as a 'Middle Man'). You may have a low co-pay, but what about the additional charges from lab work, complexity of the visit, or procedures, all contributing to unpredictable fees? Also, the physician is incentivized by the 'Middle Man' to see as many patients as possible in a single day.
Compare the above scenario with a monthly subscription fee, which frees your doctor to do things they would not be paid to do in the typical practice, like unlimited same or next-day office visits, extended time with your doctor, 24/7 availability, and easy accessibility using all that modern technology has to offer (personal communication by email, phone, text, Facetime, Skype, and tele- medicine? and even the ability to diagnose and treat things without the need for an office visit. DirectCare Family Health can offer the security of no more fear of hidden fees, co-pays, or deductibles to meet.
